Hello and welcome to the new Todd Canton on the Web. I, Richard Todd Canton, was born in the border town of Amherst, Nova Scotia, the fifth of seven natural children of Bert and Vivian Canton. In a family that consisted of intensely shy people, I may very well have been the black sheep. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my family and the life we shared but, Holy GOD, it was trying at times.
I reluctantly attended schools in Amherst. When I was in grade six I suffered a terrible blow in losing my father to cancer. We, as a family were financially strapped so we all had to go to work young. Out the door we went, into the food business, first at Cecil’s Restaurant and Home Bakery, where, incidentally, I met my future wife. I left there to join Kmart Canada which opened a whole new world for me. We, the Todd Cantons, eventually moved to, and we found our home in, Truro where we have resided ever since. I feel fortunate to live on the east coast of Canada in beautiful Nova Scotia with my wife Sherry.
The two of us do not have any children but do reside with some very spoiled house-cats. Simon, Chloe and Miss Bette Davis, Along the way our family has grown and changed, we lost some and we gained some. What an interesting journey. I write stories for the young at heart about these unique individuals called the “The Four Cats of Prince Street” and I believe that I may actually have a little bit of talent.
Then we got a dog Rozie, a purebred shi’tzu who has become the very heart of our existence (but don’t tell the cats!)
As a writer, among other things, I am also the proud author of Russell Street Memories ( a sentimental journey home) a collection of human interest stories that started in a house my father built on Russell Street and our mother filled with life, laughter and love. It is available presently on-line at Amazon.ca and Chapters.ca. Check it out! Also look forward to my new publications, All Things Family and Christmas and the most popular of all Cats and Dogs are People Too!
